The Pathfinder Foundation under its Sanvada Programme
organized its tenth public meeting on the 11th June 2008 from 4:15
p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.
The Sanvada meeting was based on whether Price Control of Rice is Right? The main presentation Sense and Nonsense of Rice Price Controls in Sri Lanka was made by Dr O. G Dayaratne – Banda & Dr. Ananda Jayawickrama, Senior Lecturers of Economics at the University of Peradeniya.
This was
followed by a presentation by Dr. Srimal Abeyratne, Senior Lecture in Economics
at the University
of Colombo, titled Causes
and Consequences of the current inflationary trend in the Country. The
meeting was chaired by Dr. Anura Ekanayake, Deputy Chairman of the Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce and the President of the Industrial Association of Sri
Lanka.
These presentations were preceded by the launch of the
Sinhala publication of the book “Economy of Sri Lanka: Liberalization and
Development.”
