Analytical Papers Commissioned |

The SANVADA Project has commissioned the analytical papers on two Bills in the legislative agenda and the Budgetary process :- 1. Micro Finance Bill by Dr. S.P. Premaratne, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, University of Colombo. 2. Ceylon Electricity Board Reform Bill by Mr. Jayasiri Karunanayake, Consultant/Electrical Engineer. 3. Process of Budget Making in Sri Lanka by Dr. M. Sarvananthan, Executive Director, Point Pedro Institute for Development. SANVADA team also in the look out for an expert to undertake a study on Sri Lankan education system, (access, quality and choices) which benchmarking with other Asian countries and finally policy recommendation. Miss Brooke Millis, Programme Officer of Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) was visiting Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka during last week. In this tour Miss Booke has met with current and prospective partner organizations involved in various training and advocacy projects. While in Sri Lanka, she visited the Pathfinder Foundation office and met with the Steering Committee, which is responsible for the implementation of “SANVADA” and advocacy programme, which will promote study, public consultation and dialogue on proposed legislations and policy actions, especially in relating economic and social development of Sri Lanka.

Meeting the Honourable Speaker of the Parliament, Sri Lanka |

Recently the Chairman and the Executive Director of the Pathfinder Foundation had a courtesy call on the Speaker, Hon. W.J.M. Lokubandara and explained him the objectives and activities to be undertaken under the “SANVADA” Project. The Speaker was associated with the Secretary General of the Parliament, Mrs. Priyanee Wijesekera in this discussion. Both appreciated the Pathfinder effort in facilitating the debates in the Parliament and outside on national issues interest to the general public. Mr. Lokubandara also emphasized the need to focus early attention to the education issues.
