Debating the need for electricity sector reforms and the proposed new legislation |

 “Electricity Sector Reforms and the Proposed Electricity Bill” was the theme for the Pathfinder Foundation’s “ Sanvada” (dialogue) programs held on 29th June. This was the third in the series of Sanvada Programs intended to promote substantive dialogue among key stakeholders, including the Parliamentarians, Policy Makers and the general public.

Sanvada on New Land Titling Bil and amendments to relavant Legislation |
 The Pathfinder Foundation on June 15, 2007 organized a Sanvada on the proposed amendments to the Land Titling Legislation at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. Dr. Ranjit D.Wanigaratne, a Senior Consultant on Land Tenure, presented to a capacity audience an analysis of the existing titling legislation as well as other legislations and their proposed Amendments related to land rights in state land settlements, succinctly explaining the operational issues the amending legislations were meant to address. After the presentation a lively discussion took place which was ably moderated by Dr. Percy T. Silva. A central issue was raised that following Land Reforms of the 1970s direct State ownership claims now extend to over 80 % of the land resource in Sri Lanka.

Sanvada (Dialogue) Series No. 1 |
Regulating Micro Finance in Sri Lanka  The Pathfinder Foundation which implements its special program named ‘Sanvada’ (Dialogue) held its first of a series of town meetings on proposed economic legislation in Sri Lanka. The targeted legislation of this town meeting was the proposed Micro Finance Bill to be presented to the Parliament soon. The event was well publicized in leading national news papers through advertisements as well as news items.
